August 12, 2011

Today we took the Anheuser-Busch tour...then we drove around St. Louis and saw alot of old brick houses...went to St. Louis Bread Co. just like Panera, for lunch...then we went to the zoo, which at about the time we got there it started to cloud up, we went into the butterfly dome, and when we came out it was starting to rain, so we decided to head back to Cape Girardeau, we barely made it onto the freeway and it poured all the way, some places we could hardly see in front of us, a lightening show like no other...we just barely made it here, and it started storming here. I will try and post tomorrow, but no guarantees, we are leaving a day earlier than planned so we can have dinner with Tom and Barbara Roy tomorrow night, and hopefully be able to go by and see Keith Sr.,  if not him at least Lois...so we have had a very relaxing time and alot of quality time being together with no worries as such.

We stayed around Kage House, caught up on sleep, laundry and just enjoyed the day...walked down to the River where the flood wall is painted with "Mississippi River Tails" about 26 murals...then on another flood wall is what they call "Wall of Fame" which they have just as many murals on it of famous people...Mark Twain and Rush Limbaugh to name a few...it was a lovely day, the heat index was pretty intense, but the evening was very nice...we went to a farmers market and there was some Mennonites selling sugar-free pies, bread and cookies, so we got a little sugar-free cherry pie and some sugar-free and a little loaf of sugar-free banana bread, one tomato and some squash to BBQ...the squash here is nothing like our squash at home.

August 10, 2011

we parked right on the edge of the Mississippi River

Gateway Arch

in the very small claustrophobic tram...it was a good thing there was air in them...only 5 people per tram

Notice we were 630 feet up

what the tram looked like that we went up to the top in...took 4 minutes to go up and 3 minutes to go down...which I was really glad

the windows that we looked down from at the very top

Gateway Arch looking towards the Mississippi River

looking down one of the windows along the south leg of the arch
We had a blast!
We had a fun filled day...when we got to St. Louis we walked around some and started to head to the Gateway Arch visitor center and it started pouring rain...so we watch a video of how they constructed the bridge, and they had a museum in there, and we rode the tram up to the very top of the arch...wow, alittle scary, but it was awesome...when we came down it had stopped raining and was sunny...we then went to an outdoor musical, "Bye,Bye Birdie" so the musical is from 8-10pm, so it is a 2 hour drive to Cape Girardeau, we got home at 12:30am...so it was a fun filled day!

this was a mural on the side of a church

through the trees is the Kage House where we are staying

upside-down baptismal around back of church across the street from us

Dinner on the deck over looking the Mississippi River
and our precious grand-daughter was born at 12:56 weighing 7lbs 5oz and 21" long

We took a guided tour around to different places...went for a walk...then had BBQ hamburgers, chips and salsa and soda for dinner...we are having a very nice and relaxing time.

August 8, 2011

drive over this bridge and you are in Illinois...this side is Missouri

this bridge took us to Kentucky

I like the roads with green trees on both sides

Lambert's

and again, we ate at Lambert's...the only home of throwed rolls...Norn got fried pork chops, which he got 2...I had chicken strips, potato salad, fried apples, and again all the "Pass arounds" you can eat...of course we brought half of the food home, BIG portions.

We just drove around today, went into Kentucky, just to say we were there...into Illinois some, and then ate and came back to our little abode...nap time, which it is 4pm

August 7, 2011

we went to sleep with voices at the Bar across the street, and then this morning was church service on the corner…the devil’s den last night and then the Lord’s service today…amazing the contrast

this is where the Missouri River and the Mississippi River come together...the river to the top of picture is the Missouri river and where the boat is going is where the Mississippi river comes in

Confluence Tower, in Illinois...went to the top, on a clear day you can see St. Louis but it wasn't real clear...150 feet up

Beautiful sunset, it was going to storm

went and saw an outdoor play
We went into Illinois and saw the Lewis and Clark Historic Site, and saw where the rivers meet...we also drove to Alton, Illinois...where we saw Number 26, Lock and Dam on the Mississippi River...had a good day, alittle rain and lightening on the way home...got home around 12:30 am.
